Tampa home prices continue to plunge

TAMPA, FL -- New data released today shows that single-family home prices in Tampa continued to slip into the new year.

According to the S&P/Case-Shiller home price index, home prices in Tampa fell 4.4 percent between December 2008 and January 2009.

Of the 20 areas measured by the index, only three other areas saw larger decreases: Chicago, Minneapolis, and Phoenix.

In year-over-year changes, Phoenix experienced the largest drop with a 35 percent decrease from 2008.

Tampa saw a 23.3 percent decrease, bringing home prices to February 2004 numbers.
