TAMPA, FL -- People can use water sprinklers on their lawns again. The city council voted 5-2 on Thursday to lift strict water restrictions put in place in Tampa after a three-year drought.
Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio recommended council members ease the water rules in a letter on Wednesday. Rainfall in the month of May has totaled 8.07 inches as of Wednesday and has replenished the reservoir and the Hillsborough River.
Lifting of the restrictions means people in Tampa can use sprinkling systems once a week. They now must follow rules put in place by SWIFTMUD.
