Suspected bike thief gets hit by car

TAMPA, FL -- A teen accused of stealing a bicycle got hit by a car as he tried to flee, Tampa Police say.

Investigators said two 18-year-olds, Markese White and Christopher Langston, stole the bike from a man's yard on Curtis Street just after 6 o'clock. The owner, Demarcus Williams, saw what happened and chased both men, police said.
 
White rode away on the stolen bike but didn't make it far. He was was struck by a car about a block away, at the corner of 24th St and Osborne Avenue, according to police.

He suffered a serious head injury and was taken to Tampa General Hospital.

Langston was arrested and charged with petit theft.
 
Police say the driver was not at fault and will not face any charges.
