ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- A middle school teacher was arrested Saturday for sending pornographic photos to an 8th grader at her school, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Detectives say 32-year old Christy Martin, a teacher at Azalea Middle School, admitted sending naked pictures of herself to the 14-year-old victim's cell phone.

The student told a relative that he was in a relationship with Martin, although investigators say the exact nature of that relationship isn't clear.

That relative told the boy's mother, who called police Saturday morning.

Detectives interviewed the student and then discovered the images of Martin on the victim's cell phone.

Martin taught computers at Azalea since last fall, and worked as a teacher's assistant in the ESE program the year before.

The victim was not one of her students at the time the allegations were made, detectives said.

She has been charged with transmitting pornographic images through an electric device and transmitting material harmful to a minor.

Martin bonded out of jail after midnight Sunday.

She will remain on paid leave pending the outcome of her case.

Martin hasn't had any prior disciplinary problems, district officials said.
