Reported by: Associated Press
Last Update: 10/27/2009 7:35 am
McALLEN, TX -- Identification is pending on four people who died in the crash of a small plane in Duval County.

Investigators were expected on the scene today.

The pilot reported encountering turbulence yesterday morning. The wreckage was found a couple of hours later in a brushy area on a ranch several miles northwest of Benavides.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the twin-turboprop Beechcraft King Air was flying from Uvalde to Leesburg, when it began to lose altitude.

A line of thunderstorms had moved across south Texas ahead of a cold front, dropping heavy rain.

The plane's tail number indicated that it was registered to Mazak Properties Inc. of Webster, Florida.

A call to the home of company president Paul Mazak II in Bushnell, Florida was answered by a woman who identified herself as his wife, then she declined comment.
