TAMPA, FL -- Senator Bill Nelson says Chinese drywall is contributing to the state's housing crisis and he thinks Chinese companies should pay to fix it.
Today, the Senator spoke before hundreds of people at a Chinese drywall summit in Tampa.
He says the tainted wallboard could impact as many as 60,000 Florida homes.
Nelson has asked the Small Business Administration to help owners with the drywall just as it would victims of any other disaster.
"This is not a hurricane. This is not a tsunami. This is a bunch of corrosive Chinese drywall and people are out of their homes. So, it's the same kind of disaster," Nelson told Reporter Kerry Kavanaugh.
Nelson says he will be asking President Obama to personally address this issue with the Chinese government during his visit to China next week.
