Rubio responds to Gov. Crist's decision to run for U.S. Senate

Last Update: 5/12/2009 11:19 am

Miami, FL -- Former Republican House Speaker Marco Rubio of Miami issued a statement in response to Governor Charlie Crist's entry into the race for U.S. Senate.

Rubio announced he's running for the same seat last week. The two candidates now will face off in the Republican primary.

"I welcome Charlie Crist to the 2010 Republican primary for the United States Senate," Rubio said. "Our primary will offer Republicans a front row seat to a debate about the future of the Republican Party here in Florida and across the nation."

"My campaign will offer GOP voters a clear alternative to the direction some want to take our party", he added. "Let the debate begin."
