Residents displaced after St.Pete house fire

ST.PETERSBURG, FL--St. Petersburg Fire & Rescue responded to a structure fire located at 1142 Melrose Av. S. on Saturday, January 10th.

When St. Petersburg Fire & Rescue units arrived they found heavy smoke coming from the garage area and roof vents of the one story wood frame house.  The fire was contained the fire to the garage and attic area before it spread to the house.

Fire investigators have determined that the fire started in the garage due to the fact that an orange light-duty extension cord was running underground to a neighbor's electrical box. The extension cord was powering several large appliances in the home.

St. Petersburg Fire & Rescue along with Progress Energy and St.Petersburg Police department are still investigating this incident.

The home recieved an estimated $8,000 in damages. No injuries were reported but the occupants have to be relocated. Red Cross was called to assist with the relocation.
