LARGO, FL -- Puppies arrived overnight from North Carolina in the care of SPCA Tampa Bay. 77 puppies were recovered from a Wayne County, North Carolina puppy mill. Investigators there recovered 300 puppies in all and sent 77 to the Tampa Bay area in the early morning hours Thursday.
Before making plans for adoption it will be a while until the puppies and dogs will be available for adoption.
The rescued dogs range from 6-months old to 10 years and include Chihuahuas, Lhasa Apsos, Maltese, Min Pins, Pekinese, Pomeranians and Poodles.
Puppy mills are commercial operations that mass produce puppies in a factory like setting and sell them often with genetic problems from over breeding and unhealthy conditions.
