Rabid raccoon alert issued in Venice

VENICE, FL -- Sarasota County officials have issued a rabies alert after two people were attacked by a raccoon Thursday afternoon. 

The raccoon tested positive for rabies.

The attack happened along the 100 block of Rimini Way in Venice. 

Officials are warning residents in the area not to feed or approach wildlife and are urging parents to warn their children to stay away from animals they are not familiar with. 

Pet owners are also reminded to have their pets vaccinated.
