TAMPA, FL -- Tampa high school senior Katelyn Blaylock was supposed to be in school at 11:00 on Wednesday morning. She was not.
Police say Blaylock was driving down Bruce B. Downs Blvd. away from Freedom High School.
There were two classmates in Blaylock's car, who may have been a distraction, and Blaylock was also busy texting while driving. Apparently too busy to see a car stopped at a red light in front of her: a Tampa police car.
According to a Tampa Police report, "Ofc. Tanya Manning was stopped at a red light and was struck from behind. The driver of the striking vehicle was distracted due to the fact that she was "Texting" while she was driving. The driver was cited for careless driving. There was approximately $3,000 in damage to both vehicles. The driver of the striking vehicle and the front passenger suffered minor injury from the deployment of the airbags. Officer Manning was not injured."
All three students were transported back to school.
