PINELLAS COUNTY, FL -- Two Pinellas County deputies shot and wounded a pit bull after the animal charged them and a neighbor.
The deputies responded to a private residence located in Safety Harbor on Wednesday afternoon and met with Tanell Johnson, who reported that she was chased by a pit bull. Johnson pointed deputies to where she last saw the dog.
The Sheriff's Office says that when the deputies approached the home to locate the dog and identify the owner, the dog charged Deputies Warren Fisher And John Long.
They both fired their guns, striking "KK", a two-and-a-half-year-old pit bull mix and wounding it in the neck area. Depuites say the dog ran back into the residence.
Deputies called Animal Control to respond, but the dogs owner, Amelia Horne decided to take the dog for treatment on her own to her private veterinarian.
Horne blamed herself for the dog's behavior. She said when she opened her back door the dog ran out and she could not get her to come back.
This is an ongoing investigation.
