LARGO, FL -- Some parents are concerned about a speech President Barack Obama plans to make to students across the country on Tuesday.

The White House says the speech is mainly intended to be motivational, telling children about the benefits of education and inspiring them to be good students.

But parents across the Tampa Bay area think schools should have given them warning about the President’s message.

“You know these are my kids, not his kids. So I feel like I should have more of a decision making opportunity when it comes to this,” said Jennifer of Largo.

School districts across the bay area say they are allowing principals to make the decision for their schools.

The Hillsborough County School District says teachers will show the speech based on their lesson plans.

“It appears the President is going to be talking about the importance of school, getting a good education, working hard, and we think those are great messages,” Steve Hagerty said.

Local school districts say they will allow parents to opt their children out of the President's speech without penalty.
