CLEARWATER, FL-- An abandoned puppy has a new start at life thanks to the efforts of a PSTA rider and two PSTA workers.

On Sunday morning, a rider told a worker at the PSTA Park Street Terminal about a puppy that had been abandoned in a cage at the former Krispy Kreme store on Gulf to Bay Boulevard.

The rider said he thought the puppy may have been there for more than a day.

PSTA Customer Service Representative, Jennie Hvizdzvak told Transportation Supervisor, Carlos Mora about the puppy, and he agreed to go check it out.

"It was tucked behind some bushes and the bottom of the cage was covered in droppings," said Mora. "The puppy was skinny and dirty, but otherwise seemed to be in good shape."

The black and white terrier mix had a collar, but no tags. Carlos made an impromptu leash out of tape and tie wraps that he had in his car.

Carlos called Clearwater Police, who arrived and called Pinellas County Animal Services for help. Animal Services Officials say the puppy appears healthy and if it remains healthy, it will be put up for adoption within a few days.

Bob Lasher, Manager of PSTA Community Relations says PSTA is proud of Hvizdzvak and Carlos for going above and beyond the call of duty by rescuing the abandoned puppy.
