CLEARWATER, FL -- Police say a nurse who called out sick from his job at a nursing home robbed that nursing home the same day.

Detectives arrested 31-year old Michael Villafana, a Licensed Practical Nurse, for robbing Highland Pines Nursing Home on 111 S. Highland Avenue in Clearwater.

Detectives say Villafana wore a mask and used the employee access code to get in and out of the secure building.

Police say he confronted a staff member with a handgun and demanded narcotic drugs, before fleeing.

The items recovered include a 9mm pistol and numerous medications including liquid morphine, hydrocodone pills, methadone pills, Fentanyl patches, alprazolam pills, oxycodone pills, liquid Lorazepam.

Police believe Villafana has an addiction to pain medication.

The investigation is still ongoing and additional charges are pending.
