LAKELAND, FL -- It's a night they will remember.
For students anxiously entering the ballroom in Lakeland, this is their first taste of adult hood. Taking dates, wearing grown-up clothes.
And in years past, Jason Townsend says dirty dancing was part of the party.
"A lot of them do booty dancing, but I don't do it, " he said ."Rub up on each other, and thats about it."
But as students walked uncomfortably up to the doors of the Lakeland center, all seemed to know how Principal Tracy Collins feels about bumping and grinding.
"It’s just gotten to the point where it’s obscene. All the kids need to feel comfortable, " Collins said, "There’s a time and place for it, but this is a school function and not really the place."
Friday, the Polk County School District put in a new rule -- no sexually explicit dancing. Some students scoffed.
But others like Miranda Prince seem to appreciate the rule. "In the middle, everyone gets in there and it’s all nasty. And disgusting."
Principal Collins says security catching students dirty dancing will warn them first and then kick out students breaking rules. But Townsend doesn't know how effective that will be.
"They're putting more restrictions on us but I don't know how they're going to enforce it, because I’m sure a lot of people are going to end up doing it."
