Mom charged with DUI after car crashes with kids inside

FORT PIERCE, FL -- Fredrina Johnson's five children were inside her sport utility when it crashed early Thursday morning injuring the kids.  The Florida Highway Patrol says she was driving in Fort Pierce when her vehicle hit a curb, a stop sign and a utility pole before stopping.

Johnson was belligerent and smelled like alcohol according to the FHP trooper.  She refused to taken the field breath test to check her blood alcohol level. 

Johnson's children turned the tables on her telling the trooper that even though she denied drinking, they said she was drunk and had been driving fast according to FHP.

A total of 16 charges were filed against Johnson including DUI with injury and child endangerment.

It is not known the extent of the children's injuries or if they were wearing seat belts.
