HOLIDAY, FL -- Marines are a tight group and when word got out about one soldiers stolen uniform, the help started pouring in.

We reported Joe Marshello's story last Friday. He says his dress blue Marine uniform was taken along with some other items from the trunk of his car. It was parked right outside his family's home.

Since the broadcast, Marshello has received numerous calls and e-mails. Many former Marines have made offers to help buy him a new uniform. Former Marine Donna Burke sent an e-mail to us reading, "If Joe doesn't get his uniform back please tell him I will be happy to help him get it replaced. I know the pride of the uniform."

Marshello says he's been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and contributions. He says he wanted the story to shame the thieves into returning his uniform. He says he had no idea the publicity would lead to people offering money. Marshello met with one former Marine in person and shared stories.

Marshello just started college classes this week, and hasn't been able to find a job since going on reserve duty. But one of those who contacted him told Joe she would help with that as well.

The Dress Blues uniform is considered to be the most distinctive dress uniform of the US armed services. It is worn at formal events and official functions.
