BRADENTON, FL -- A 17-year old girl was critically injured after detectives say her boyfriend accidentally shot inside his Bradenton home Fruday.

Jessica Masias's boyfriend told detectives that he was showing her a gun inside his home at 2520 30th Avenue East just after 8 pm when the gun went off, shooting her in the forehead.

He didn't believe the gun was loaded at the time, according to the Manatee Sheriff's Office.

She was taken to Bayfront Medical Center where she remained in critical condition Saturday, according Manatee Sheriff's Office spokesman Randy Warren.

Her boyfriend, 17-year-old Omar Flores, was charged and culpable negligence and improper exhibition of a firearm and taken to a juvenile assessment center.

Warren said the charges could be upgraded if the girl's condition worsened.
