LARGO, FL -- Largo Police have arrested Matthew Selk for felony cruelty to animals after killing his girlfriend's cat.

A roommate heard the Selk punching his girlfriend's 2-year-old Siamese cat after he became upset with it, then placed the cat in a back pack. Selk left and returned to Winding Lane Apartments on Belcerh Road in Largo, without the cat.

Selk's girlfriend arrived home from work, discovered blood everywhere in her bedroom and 2 bloody knives. The girlfriend confronted Selk who admitted that he killed the cat. She called the police as he left the apartment and a perimeter was set up. K-9 Officer Misner and his partner "Wil" responded and started a track.

An Officer noticed the male walking from the back of an Outback Steakhouse and stopped him inside of the Apartment building. Selk was placed into custody for the Felony Cruelty to Animals.

Officers conducted an area search for the cat which had negative results. The suspect says the cat was dead and he had placed it in the grease dumpster in the rear of the Outback Restaurant. Officers searched the grease dumpster and nothing turned up. Then the suspect hinted that he may have dismembered it however he would not tell the officers where it was.

How unconscionable. Most serial killers start off their careers by killing and mutilating animals. I hope Mr. Selk is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
