PALM HARBOR, FL -- The Suncoast Animal League has raised enough money to outfit 50 Pinellas County emergency vehicles with sets of animal oxygen masks.

There are three masks in each set, which fit animals ranging in size from small cats to extra large dogs. Each set of masks costs $70.

After the Suncoast Animal League reaches its goal of equipping 100 Pinellas County emergency vehicles with the masks, they will work to raise money to purchase masks for emergency vehicles in Pasco County.

"People might not realize just how common it is for us to find pets in burning structures," says Clearwater Fire Chief, Jamie Greer.

"We don't have stats to prove it, but in my experience we're about 10 times more likely to find a pet in a burning home than we are to find a resident in the burning home. So it happens far more often than you think."

The Suncoast Animal League is a community supported, not for profit, no kill animal rescue agency that cares for abused, neglected, homeless and unwanted animals.
