TAMPA, FL -- With grandma clutching her hands, four-year-old Summer Moll slowly learned to walk again - and took small steps out of Tampa General Hospital Thursday morning. This came after a month of rehabilitation. The young girl had broken legs and a fractured skull after a drunk driver, driving the wrong way, crashed into her mom's car in September. Summer survived, but her mom, Jennifer, did not.
Despite a tough four months since the accident, Summer's made friends at the hospital. As she left, Summer waved good-bye to the nurses who had acted as guardian angels to her.
While sitting down for a television news interview, Summer quickly grabbed the microphones, holding them herselves. She seemed much happier to be out of a wheelchair. At one point, she looked like a human pretzel, showing off the fact that she can now cross her legs to sit down. Just weeks ago, the toddler had pins in her legs; they were often covered with a blanket.
After a couple minutes, the young girl was ready to leave, and grandma helped her hop out the interview seat to head to the car.
"This is a very happy day, very happy day." Grandma Tammy Rosian said. "We're leaving a lot of friends up here. We've met a lot of friends and it's a good day. I
Meanwhile, 25-year-old Cheryl-Maria Riemann,
Rosian told abcactionnews.com she hopes to create an anti-drunk driving campaign once Summer is much better.
Summer will continue to have physical therapy three times a week, but is thrilled to be back home.
