BRADENTON, FL --Manatee County deputies are asking health workers to be on the lookout for a home invader with bite wounds.

Deputies say he broke into a home on Clark Avenue in Bradenton early Friday morning and ran right into the jaws of a pit bull. The gunman fired a shot from a .40 caliber handgun at the dog, but the pit bull didn't back down.

The residents in the home heard the commotion and hid in their bedroom closet.  Moments later, the gunman smashed through the door of the bedroom while the dog continued to attack.  The victims heard the robber saying, "get off of me!"

He then managed to run away, empty handed.

Neither the victims or the dog were hurt.  Two children in the home slept through the entire incident.

Local hospitals were alerted to be on the lookout for anyone with dog bite injuries.
