TAMPA, FL -- Three elementary school students are accused of breaking into a school bus parked behind Frost Elementary School and taking it on a joy ride. Sheriff's deputies say the children were as short as 4 feet two inches tall and could barely see over the steering wheel.
Two of the boys are 11-years-old. The third is 12-years-old. Surveillance video on the bus captured all three children driving. All three were charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle, burglary and petite theft.
Hillsborough County Sheriff's spokesman JD Callaway says someone left the keys inside the bus. The boys broke in, started the vehicle and drove it around the school yard. Someone noticed the bus driving around and called deputies.
They caught the boys after a foot chase.
All three boys go to Bing Elementary School, Callaway said.
