MIAMI (AP) -- Ecuador's government is asking for the return of a man on Florida's death row because they say he should not have been taken from the South American country.

Ecuadorean officials are holding a news conference Monday in Miami to ask for Nelson Serrano's return. Serrano was sentenced to death in 2007 for killing four people in a Polk County factory in 1997 over a business relationship gone sour.

Serrano was arrested in Ecuador in 2002. At the time, he held both Ecuadorean and U.S. passports.

Ecuador has no death penalty and will not extradite fugitives who face the punishment in other countries. But U.S. authorities were able to use Serrano's status as a U.S. citizen to get him deported in a process Ecuador now claims is illegal.
