DUNEDIN, FL -- Jingles, the American Eskimo dog that survived his owner's house explosion on February 11 died over the weekend from complications while going through treatment for his injuries.
Jingles was being treated by the Florida Veterinary Specialists in Tampa where he suffered from smoke inhalation, burns, a swollen jaw, shrapnel embedded in his skin, and major swelling of the brain.
On Saturday, Jingles developed a small blood clot that stopped his heart. He was able to be revived long enough for his owner Duane Cole to spend some quality time with him but then a second cardiac arrest took his life. All indications were that Jingles was on the road to recovery.
Jingles was helped by the firefighters at the scene of the house explosion who used an oxygen mask made for humans. His plight called attention to the shortages of animal oxygen masks needed by emergency officials to treat animals.
The Suncoast Animal League had planned to post medical information about Jingles on their website.
It's been determined that the cause of the explosion that leveled the home was a propane tank. Just what caused the tank to blow up is still under investigation.
