PALM HARBOR, FL -- A 12-year-old Palm Harbor boy was taken to Bayfront Medical Center Friday morning with a gunshot wound to his head.

Jacob Hunter Larson was unconscious and breathing when paramedics received the call from 911 dispatch.

Detectives believe Larson accidentally shot himelf.

The shooting happend at his home at 435 Laughing Gull Lane around 11:20 a.m. Larson's stepfather found the boy when he came home from work.

Larson was taken to Palm Harbor Middle School by ambulance and airlifted to Bayfront with life-threatening injuries. He was later transferred to All Children's Hospital where he was listed in critical condition Friday.

Hospital officials are no longer releasing updates on his condition.

At this time, detectives are treating the incident as an accidental discharge of the small caliber handgun found at the scene.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the incident.
