PORT RICHEY, FL -- A 6-year-old boy was killed in a house fire in Port Richey late Sunday night.

The fire broke out at the home at 10925 Bridleton Road just after 11:20 pm.  The child, Brice Atkeson, was taken to Bayonet Point Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"Our patrol officers responded.  Some of the occupants made it safely outside the home.  Our fire rescue units had arrived and began extinguising the fire," said Sergeant Mel Eakley with the Pasco Sheriff's Office.

An adult male, Michael Hatalski, was flown to Tampa General Hospital with 2nd degree burns. Neighbors say he had burns to his hands and face.

Two other children in the house were not injured. Their mother, Danielle Hopkins was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

"It's an ongoing investigation with the Pasco County Sheriff's Office and the Fire Marshal's Office and Pasco Fire Rescue," Eakley said.

The boys father is in an Orlando prison and was notified.
