TAMPA, FL -- It was a momentous moment for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Sunday, the team finally ended a seven game losing streak with a win over the Green Bay Packers.
But it was short lived for starting safety Sabby Piscitelli. When the 26-year-old came home, his mood was deflated and it was his window that was broken.
His South Tampa home had been ransacked and robbed. The suspects got away with a flat screen television and many more items.
Piscitelli said he does not even know the extent of what was taken and needs to go through the house.
Piscitelli avoided traditional locker room interviews Monday. He was genuinely surprised at everyone's interest and said, "I appreciate everyone's concern, but I want to keep this a private matter."
Talking in his driveway he did say while he was shaken, he is grateful nothing happened to his dog Duece, who he has had for two years.
Police continue to investigate. Spokesperson Laura McElroy said, "We are making progress and we have some strong leads."
McElroy also said unfortunately Piscitelli may have been an intentional target.
"It's unusual to have a burglary on a Sunday afternoon when all the neighbors are at home. It appears the suspects knew the owner was a Bucs player and would be on the field Sunday.
Teammates said they would rally around their teammate. Cornerback E.J Biggers who has a locker next to Piscitelli said, "It takes a huge breath out of a win. This was such an unfortunate incident. We will help Sabby get through this. He is a great guy and will get through this."
Piscitelli did not miss a beat. He showed up to review films and is ready to be the best on the field.
