Bradenton man dies after being hit with police stun gun

BRADENTON, FL -- A Bradenton man died after being Tasered by a police officer when he reportedly ran away following a traffic stop.

Authorities say they tried to stop Derrick Humbert early Monday morning in the 700 block of 27th Street Eas.  But officers said Humbert refused and fled on foot.

He was chased through several yards.  At one point, an officer used his stun gun to stop Humbert and he was taken into custody.

"EMS was called to transport Mr. Humbert to the hospital for medical clearance prior to being taken to the Manatee County Jail,"  according to a police statement. 

Humbert was taken to to Manatee Memorial Hospital where he died.

Investigators later determined Humbert had an outstanding warrant for an arrest  on a marijuana charge.

An investigation is underway to determine what caused his death.
