DUNEDIN, FL -- Deputies say Mark Higgins of Clearwater was crossing the road walking his bicycle Sunday night at 1780 Main Street when the driver of a 2008 Cadillac Escalade hit him and his bike.

Higgins was headed across State Road 580 from south to north when the SUV hit him as it was heading west on 580.

Higgins died at 10:50 p.m.

The vehicle driver and passengers were not hurt.  While the investigation is ongoing, speed does not appear to be a factor.
