HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL -- A man riding his bicycle under the influence was hit and killed by a Hillsborough County deputy Sunday night.

Johnathan Lee Loschen was riding his bicycle around 10 p.m. when detectives say he ran into the path of a deputy on routine patrol in a marked car.

Deputy Michael Hannaford, who has been on the force for eight years, was patrolling on US 92 East and Mobil Villa Drive when Loschen, of Seffner, drove from the south side of US  92 on a collision course with the deputy.

Detectives say Deputy Hannaford was unable to stop the car in time and hit Loschen.  He was taken to Tampa General Hospital where he died of his injuries.

Early reports from the hospital indicate Loschen had a blood alcohol level of .27 which is more than three times the amount Florida considers a driver impaired.

The deputy was not injured.
