Bay Area victims identified in Texas plane crash

CITRUS COUNTY, FL -- Investigators say the victims of a deadly plane crash in Texas had ties to the Bay Area.

The private plane went down in a thicket of trees on a ranch neare Benavides, Texas on Monday.

Authorities say the pilot, Paul Mazak II of Webster was president of Mazak Properties in Sumter County and had a second home in Crystal River.

Richard Schippers of Beverly Hills, his son, Shane Schippers of Dunnellon and a third passenger, Malcolm Lavender, were also killed.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
