CLEARWATER, FL -- Police have arrested a man and charged him with the shooting death of a Clearwater teenager.  Police have charged 18 year-old Trenton Williams with 1st degree murder in the shooting death of 17 year-old Alvin Tooney.

The shooting happened around 9:00 p.m. last night in the parking lot of Park Place Apartments on Fairwood Avenue.  When police arrived on scene, they found Toney, who had been shot several times.  He was transported to Bayfront Medical Center where he died.

Police say robbery was the motive and quickly identified possible suspects.  Detectives say Williams heard that the victim had a gun for sale and arranged a buy.  When the victim tried to run, cops say Williams shot him several times.

Williams was arrested just after 5 a.m. and booked into the Pinellas County jail. Additional charges are pending.
