As of 8 am, Hurricane Ida is starting to weaken. The latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center says Ida is located about 285 miles south-southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River and about 375 miles south of Pensacola Florida.
Ida's winds have decreased to about 80 mph and is a category one storm. Ida is located at 25.8 W and 88.2 N. She is moving NNW at 16 mph.
Ida is still expected to be a hurricane when it approaches the gulf coast Monday night or early Tuesday.
It's important to remember this storm will not have much of an impact of the Bay area directly. As we've been saying since Thursday, our breezy weather will continue, but the worst weather will be Tuesday in the panhandle. I believe most of the strong winds will be well ahead of the center of Ida. In other words, when the eye crosses the Panhandle of Tuesday, most of the heaviest weather will already have moved inland.
Our storm chaser, Don Germaise will be in place to bring updates from the panhandle as Ida approaches Monday and Tuesday.
