LAKELAND, FL -- A Polk County elementary school is reworking its dismissal policy after a teacher accidentally put a child on the bus.

5-year-old Caylee Mizell was found by strangers wandering the parking lot after the bus driver dropped her off in her Lakeland neighborhood.

Caylee says she warned her teacher.

"I said my mommy, when I get off the bus, my mommy is not at the bus stop," the 5-year-old said.

The kindergartener's mother says fear and panic unleashed when she got a call from the YMCA that her daughter wasn't there.

"At that time I said 'what?' She should be there at aftercare," said LeeAnne Mizell.

As she dialed 911, Mizell got a call from the manager of her apartment complex saying the child was safe.

But here's the rub.

"Its happened twice," said Mizell.

Caylee goes to Griffin Elementary School in Lakeland.

The school says the teacher should have handed Caylee off to a YMCA employee. That was what the school decided the first time Caylee was accidentally put on the bus.

"We want parents to know that their children will be safe and so we're investigating to take care of it appropriately," said Charlene Richardson with Polk County Schools.

The school says the teacher who put little Caylee on the bus can receive anything ranging from a verbal waring to being terminated. The investigation continues.

In the meantime, LeAnne Mizell says she is not sure she will let Caylee return to school there.
