ST.PETERSBURG, FL -- St. Petersburg Fire Rescue units responded to a report Thursday morning that a large oak tree had fallen onto a house.
A 40 foot limb weighing more than five tons fell onto the house at 516 16th Ave. N causing two holes in the roof and pulling down live power wires at the same time.
The massive limb came from a neighbor's oak tree.
68-year-old home owner Bill Burtchaell said that "it sounded like a bomb went off and shook the whole house." Burtchaell was working on his computer when the tree came crashing through his bedroom ceiling.
"I was in shock. I think I still am," Burtchaell said as he looked at the large limbs of the oak tree that had broken off and crashed onto his house.
"I've never seen anything like this that wind wasn't somehow involved," said Lt. Dave Deschryver, "the branch looked rotten and just snapped."
No one was injured and Progress Energy was called to repair the damaged power lines.
Firefighters helped the Burtchaells clean up the inside of the home and make arrangements to have the holes secured before it rains.
