SARASOTA COUNTY, FL -- Firefighters from Sarasota County Fire Rescue responded to the Florikan fertilizer plant at around 2:15 Sunday afternoon.
According to fire officials a hopper machine caught fire inside the plant causing toxic smoke to billow from the plant.
Five firefighters had to be taken to the hospital to be treated for toxic smoke inhalation.
The fire was brought under control and a hazardous materials team were at the plant mopping up the scene.
