MANATEE COUNTY, FL -- A 14-year-old boy was arrested Sunday night and charged with fleeing officers and carrying a concealed weapon.
A deputy spotted a Nissan driving in circles in a front yard on 7th Street East around 11 p.m., according to a sheriff's statement. The officer said he saw a female jumping back from the car as through she were about to be hit.
The driver then took off west on 56th Avenue East with the officer in pursuit. When the driver attempted to turn west onto 58th Avenue Drive East, he lost control and crashed into a tree.
He tried to run away on foot, but fell to the ground when ordered to stop. After the boy was arrested, officers found brass knuckles in his back pocket.
Three other people in the car were detained and later released. They said they exchanged the car for narcotics with the son of the owner of the car
Investigators learned that the female who jumped back from the car is the driver's ex-girlfriend.
