MANATEE COUNTY, FL --  Authorities believe a child that drowned in a bathtub was an act of negligence and have turned over the case to the State Attorney''s Office to review possible charges.

Deputies say the 19-year-old mother prepared a bath for her 11-month-old son in their West Bradenton home over the weekend.  They say the mom started filling the bathtub and placed the boy inside the tub while she walked away to get clothes and a towel.

She told investigators that she was gone about 5-10 minutes and was not concerned when she didn't hear her son playing or splashing in the tub.

When she returned to the bathroom, the child was lying face down in the water.   Detectives said the mother pulled the child out of the tub and tried to administer CPR until the EMS crew arrived.

Detectives believe the teenage mom failed to provide adequate supervision which resulted in the child's death.  Charges are pending the outcome of the State Attorney's investigation.
