Three Tampa Bay area towns are among smallest populations in Florida

HIGHLAND PARK VILLAGE, Fla. - With the recent release of U.S. Census estimates, we found that three local cities rank among the least populated in Florida.

According to estimates, Belleair Shore in Pinellas County has a population of 109. Hillcrest Heights in Polk County has around 250 residents, and its neighbor, Highland Park, boasts a population of 232.

Residents of Highland Park, which is just south of Lake Wales, say they've grown accustomed to the small-town feel and comfort Highland Park provides.

"We really don't need to enlarge it, and don't need to change it," said 41-year resident Ann Geils, "We're very self-sufficient as we are."

The town's mayor, Mark Smith, is a lawyer by trade. He said living in a small city has advantages when it comes to legislation.

"We make our own ordinances, and we do things that we think are in the best interest of the town," Smith said.
