ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Tampa Bay Rays infielder Evan Longoria thanked 8-year-old Isabella Gregory on Wednesday via social media for her contributions to Pet Pal Animal Shelter in St. Petersburg.
Longoria tweeted his gratitude after a video was posted on Youtube showing Isabella with piles of donated blankets and bowls she delivered to the shelter.
"Guess I need to hit more HRs. Thanks for the support Isabella!" Longoria's tweet read in part.
The donations were made as part of a school project Isabella began last summer. She set aside a donated blanket for the shelter every time Longoria hit a homerun for the Rays. Longoria has already donated $100 per homerun to the shelter for the last two seasons.
Isabella, a third-grader at a St. Petersburg elementary school, plans to donate more items with every homerun Longoria hits in 2014.
