Tampa, Fla. - Tampa Police made their presence known at the 2014 Gasparilla Parade of Pirates along Bayshore Boulevard. The bolstered policing effort was made in light of the attacks during last year's Boston Marathon.
Officers with Tampa Police wore neon green jackets to be more noticeable in a crowd. Police security cameras, mounted on tall poles, lined the parade route.
TPD also brought in bomb-sniffing dogs to check the parade floats before the event started.
"We put a lot of time and effort into developing the security plan and making it look seamless," Tampa's Chief of Police, Jane Castor, said.
The Tampa Police department was joined along the parade route by several other local police agencies, including Temple Terrace Police and the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
