State troopers along state roads and highways have a new focus this weekend as they continue to watch out for aggressive drivers of trucks and cars.
Florida Highway Patrol reports more than 80 percent of deadly crashes between trucks and cars are caused by driver error, the rest because of vehicle defects, weather or road conditions.
Troopers will be out in full force during their annual TACT (Ticketing Aggressive Cars and Trucks) Campaign looking for anyone speeding, changing lanes without a signal or following too closely.
Aggressive drivers are a common scene for Rudy Cespedes, a truck driver.
"It can get really bad out there," he said.
He's had several close calls.
"They cut in front of you," he said, "they slow down."
Earlier this week St. Pete police officers arrested Andrew Long after they say he got in a road rage incident with another driver along I-275, then followed that driver to the intersection off University Way and 6th Ave. south where they both got out of their cars.
Police say Long pulled out a gun and pointed it at the other driver.
State troopers hope the ticketing campaign will help drivers think twice before driving aggressively and causing an accident.
The statewide campaign lasts through March 9.
