A court date has been scheduled for March 31, 2017 for the trial of a school bus driver who crashed into a retention pond in 2015.

At court on Friday, the judge gave the defense more time to gather more paperwork.

The 2015 crash involved several elementary school students who were injured when the bus went off the road in Odessa and landed on its side in the water.

Lenoir Sainfimin is charged with careless driving.

Hillsborough County deputies say he was speeding on Nine Eagles Drive just moments before the crash but he has a different story to share in court.

It is possible that the judge could drop the charges altogether or choose to move forward.

In December, we spoke exclusively with Sainfimin who insisted that he was not a careless driver and claims the brakes failed just before the crash.
