The family of an unarmed man shot by a Hillsborough County sheriff's deputy during a drug raid Aug. 30 is demanding an apology and answers about what occurred leading up to the shooting.

A march is planned for 4:45 p.m. today, Sept. 9, to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office headquarters at 2008 E. 8th Ave in Ybor City to demand justice for Levonia Riggins, according to a statement from organizers of the march.

"Ahead of funeral services for Levonia Riggins, his family is demanding answers about what happened in their home the day Deputy Caleb Johnson took Daddyman's life," the news release states.

"The family is demanding a formal apology from Sheriff David Gee and an end to the corrupt racially biased policing of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department that has resulted in the senseless murder of not only "Daddyman" Riggins, but countless other black and brown brothers and sisters in Hillsborough County."

The family also is asking to see the formal removal of Deputy Johnson from the sheriff's office and for him to be charged with murder.

Relatives and friends have participated in several protests in the Palm River/Clair Mel City neighborhoods in unincorporated Hillsborough County since the incident .
