Local wounded vet helps others through softball fundraiser with St. Pete firefighters, police

SAINT PETERSBURG, Fla. - Saint Petersburg Fire Rescue responders, police officers and VETSports are hosting their first annual exhibition softball game as part of the first ever Wounded Warrior Games.

The games were held at Al Lang Stadium, in St. Pete, and gates opened at noon, Sunday.

General Admission is $10, military $5 and kids 14 and under are free.

VETSports aims to provide wounded veterans with adaptive sporting equipment that allows them to participate in team sports. Through their partnership with Kiwanis Miracle League, funds raised will benefit special needs children with similar sporting equipment that is adaptive to their specials needs.

Families can come out and watch the game which will have some famous sideline cheerleaders like local mascots Sparky, the fire dog, and Raymond from the Tampa Bay Rays. St. Petersburg firefighters and K-9 units will also hold demonstrations.

The Tampa Bay Rays, Buccaneers and Lightning have all gotten involved to help meet the needs of donations towards the organizations.
