A Lake Wales man was arrested with over 10 lbs worth of synthetic marijuana in his vehicle, the Lake Wales Police told ABC Action News on Monday.
The suspect got the attention of police not for selling drugs, but for “blaring and booming” his music, say police officers.
Joseph Howard, 29, of Lake Wales, was pulled over across the street from Roosevelt School on E Street. Police say Howard became “nervous and fidgety” and ran from officers, who eventually chased him down and, after Howard ignored their commands to stop, tased him.
That’s when officers realized they had a massive drug bust on their hands: what appears to be 10.4 lbs of synthetic marijuana in total was found in the car, including 2.5 lbs of packaged synthetic marijuana, and nearly 8 lbs of loose synthetic marijuana, much of it in the back of the car in trash bags.
We hope this “pretty substantial” bust “puts a dent” in the local supply of synthetic marijuana, says Lake Wales Deputy Chief Tony Schulze to ABC Action News, who described the amount as the largest synthetic marijuana bust his department has seen yet.
Deputy Chief Schulz says the drugs are being sent to the FDLE for testing to confirm their substance. Howard is being held for drug possession and resisting arrest.
