Deputies arrested a Hillsborough County student Wednesday after reports he had a ski mask and was loading a gun while riding the bus with other kids.

18-year-old Jamarcus Simms has been charged with two counts of firearm possession on school property.

Simms was on the bus headed for Brandon Alternative School. A source told authorities Simms was loading the handgun on his lap in his seat, and the source said Simms then tried to hide the weapon.

  • Brandon Alternative School services around 100 transfer students. Students often end up at the school due to disciplinary reasons or "change of placement".

Deputies stopped the bus and evacuated all students on board. A search of the bus revealed a ski mask, a 9mm handgun and a magazine loaded with 12 rounds. The HCSO report said the gun was stolen in Temple Terrace.

  • Simms has a handful of prior violations and arrests.

There were no reported injuries.

We've reached out the Temple Terrace police about the circumstances surrounding the stolen pistol. Further, HCSO said they have subpoenaed the bus surveillance video.
