TAMPA - Are you ever curious about the real lives of politicians, celebrities, local newsmakers and athletes? Who are their mentors and who would they really like to meet?
Each Tuesday, ABC Action News asks 10 questions of a Bay area leader or celebrity. They're fun questions that let you get to know the person.
This week we hear from WFLA radio personality Jack Harris. He's certainly one of my most favorite people I have met here in the Bay area.
Jack is one of the most popular and recognizable names in the Tampa Bay broadcast market.
He came to us from West Virginia. Jack, born William H Harris Jr., grew up in a very small town called Logan. After high school he attended Davidson College in North Carolina but headed back to his home state and graduated from West Virginia University with a bachelors in history.
But, his career in radio didn't begin just then. Jack decided to join the U.S. Army where he spent two years as an officer and did tours in the Dominican Republic and Vietnam.
Jack went back home and began his radio career in 1959. He stayed in West Virginia for more than 10 years and then decided to move to Tampa.
Jack has received big offers from all over the US, but made Tampa his home, a gift to Bay area listeners.
Jack's in-depth knowledge, humor and easy going personality helps hundreds of thousands wake up every morning to his popular radio show which he co-hosts with Tedd Webb on WFLA AM. Radio personality Corey Dylan recently joined the crew.
But, Jack's accomplishments go beyond radio. He was on the original broadcast team for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was with The Tampa Bay Bandits, was the voice of the USF Basketball Program and the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
He has also had many stints on local television stations including here on ABC Action News.
Jack is also always the first to agree to charity events. I can not count the times he has been the emcee in fashion shows that I have taken part in. It just goes to show how he embraces the Bay area and how the Bay area has embraced him back. Truly a Tampa Bay Treasure.
Here are ten questions for Jack Harris:
